An evaluation of a migrant’s talents in accordance with the standards of Australia is carried out in order to determine whether or not such skills meet the requirements of the Australia. The immigration agency of Australia is looking for competent migrants. The skills evaluation is a necessary requirement for a significant number of visa applications.

WHAT IS A SKILLS ASSESSMENT?/ OVERVIEW

Assessments of skills are provided by the applicable skills evaluating authorities. A skills evaluating authority is a body that verifies that your talents fulfil the requirements for a certain occupation.

The combined list of eligible skilled occupations categorises all relevant occupations into four lists. The majority of occupations on each list have their own assessment authority for skills. The Department of Home Affairs will only accept a skills evaluation given by the appropriate assessing authority.

You are responsible for contacting the proper assessing authority for your profession and obtaining a skills assessment, if necessary. Each assessing authority has its own methods, timelines, and fees.

For some visa subclasses (and streams), obtaining a sufficient skills assessment is required, while others may request one. You should read all available information regarding the visa for which you wish to apply. This will help you to identify whether and when you are required to submit a skills assessment.
