As a result of the effects of COVID-19, international students in Victoria are currently eligible for mentor services that can help them find employment.
A mentor will work with international students to help them understand their career goals, aspirations, and the steps they need to take to achieve them under this programme. A mentor can be a valuable resource for an international student.
How can a Mentor support me to find work?
A Mentor will work with you to understand your work goals and aspirations and help you achieve them. A Mentor can:
- support you to apply for jobs
- assist you to develop your resume and prepare for job interviews
- support you to become job ready
- match you with jobs that interest you
- help you enrol in training or obtain qualifications
- assist you with personal needs, including transport to attend interviews
- provide support for six months once you have a job
- connect you to other community services.
How can I find a Mentor?
Mentors are available throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria. You can speak to a Mentor face-to-face, online or over the phone.

Who can receive support from a Mentor?
The impacts of COVID-19 have resulted in critical workforce demand across Victoria. In recognition of these impacts, Jobs Victoria has introduced temporary changes to current program arrangements to provide surge support to enable key industries to maintain operations in the context of interruptions due to COVID-19.
Up to 30 June 2022, you can receive support from a Mentor if:
- you are living in Victoria and are long-term unemployed or at risk of long-term unemployment, including temporary visa holders with work entitlements*
- you are a young person (15-24 years) engaged in post-secondary education who is currently experiencing or at risk of long-term unemployment**.
- you are a surge demand worker who has gained a short-term role through the Jobs Victoria online hub and need support to secure subsequent work.
* Individuals with an expiring (i.e. due to expire within the period 1 January to 30 June 2022) or expired visa are not eligible for the service.
** Consistent with existing eligibility exemption processes, access to Jobs Victoria Mentor services by secondary school students will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Does it cost anything to get support from a Mentor?
No. Receiving support from a Mentor is free.
Do Mentors speak my language?
